Veneers

A beautiful smile says more about you than you think.

It doesn’t just tell the world that you have a great dentist or that you practice excellent oral healthcare. A beautiful smile says that you care about your appearance – and that you take pride in yourself.

If your teeth are chipped, cracked or discoloured, that can negatively affect the way you look and feel. Porcelain veneers can quickly and easily change, helping you restore your smile and feel more about its appearance.

What Are Veneers?

Dental veneers are thin, durable shells that cover up minor damage or cosmetic imperfections in your tooth enamel to improve your smile.

They can be a quicker alternative to orthodontic treatment, and compared to other cosmetic procedures like teeth whitening or dental bonding, they're stronger and last longer.

Veneers can:

  • Improve the length and shape of your teeth
  • Conceal space between your teeth
  • Change the colour of your teeth
  • Hide any chips or cracks from accidents or a bad bite

How Do Veneers Work?

Veneers are bonded to the front of your teeth in a way that's secure but minimally invasive.

They're typically crafted from porcelain or composite resin in a dental laboratory, and - once the final results are attached - each one looks and feels like a totally natural tooth.

The procedure can all be done in as little as a couple of visits to the dental clinic, and you'll even receive temporary veneers while your permanent custom veneers are being created. It's one of the quickest ways to transform your smile and get results that you'll love for years to come.

How Long Do Veneers Last?

If you maintain a great brushing and flossing routine, come in for your regular checkups and cleanings, and have great dental hygiene overall, veneers can last for at least 10 years.

Can Anyone Get Veneers?

In some cases there may be pre-treatment needed to address oral health issues like gum disease or a tooth infection, but - in general - if you have strong, healthy gums and teeth, you can get veneers.

Lumineers

Looking for Lumineers in Edmonton? You'll find them at Oliver Park Dental.

What Are Lumineers?

Lumineers are one of the newest veneer technologies available in the world of cosmetic dentistry, and they make it even faster and easier to correct flaws in your natural teeth.

How Are Lumineers Different From Veneers?

Lumineers are thinner than traditional veneers, so they can be applied directly your teeth without any grinding or trimming in advance.

The "secret ingredient" is the special ceramic that they're crafted from. Despite being thin and light, it's strong enough to allow Lumineers to be as thin as contact lenses.

They're sometimes called "no-prep veneers", and with how quick and easy they are to apply, it's easy to see how they earned that nickname.

Do Lumineers Cost More Than Veneers?

While you might expect an option that's lighter and needs less preparation to cost more, Lumineers are typically more affordable than traditional veneers.

Are Lumineers Less Durable Than Veneers?

There have been a a few reports of Lumineers breaking more easily than traditional veneers, but in our experience here at Oliver Park Dental, both options can last for 10 years of more if they're cared for properly.

Maintaining Your Veneers

Veneers can last for a decade or more - but you have to be diligent and mindful about how you care for them. If you're thinking about getting veneers (or Lumineers), here's what you should be aware of:

Great Hygiene Is A Must

Dental veneers give you an amazing smile, and keeping it that way means you need to continue flossing and brushing at least twice daily while also coming in for regular cleaning and checkups.

Steer Clear of Staining Foods

Since they're typically made from porcelain or ceramic, veneers are naturally stain resistant. However, the enamel of your natural teeth isn't, so consuming staining foods  and drinks like berries and coffee can potentially create a mismatched appearance between your teeth.

Avoid Biting Hard Surfaces

Veneers are strong, but they're certainly not indestructible. If you regularly chew on ice, bite your fingernails, or use your teeth to open packaging, those habits will need to go once you get your veneers.
